Project Strategy

Inovo is providing project planning and controls services for Auckland International Airport Ltd’s (AIAL) multi-billion dollar Capital Works Programme – a long-term infrastructure investment designed to transform and future-proof New Zealand’s largest airport.
Working across a complex portfolio of concurrent projects, Inovo has supported AKL with planning and scheduling, governance reporting, integration forecasts and risk assessments. This work has supported AKL in coordinating across the portfolio, reviewing delivery risk and maintaining oversight of projects in delivery.
The Inovo project controls team compiled AKL project schedules into one Airport Capital Works Master Programme (CWMS), incorporating the development and maintenance of the associated 4D visual programme.
Inovo currently provides programme integration support to inform delivery confidence for key airport stakeholders. Inovo also provides quantitative schedule risk assessment and related analysis where requested by AKL.
Inovo has partnered with Auckland Airport since 2018, demonstrating a long-standing and trusted relationship that has continued across multiple phases of the airport’s capital development programme.

Specific Auckland Airport projects Inovo has contributed to include:
Domestic Jet Terminal
- Regional Airfield Expansion (hardstands) - a $146 million hardstand project currently under construction, with Inovo providing programme assurance services to support airport and Engineer-to-Contract assessments.
- Checkpoint and cargo access (AVSEC / Airport Security) - providing project planning and assurance services for the development of a new airport security checkpoint.
- Baggage handling system upgrade & Eastern Baggage Hall
- Transport links and roading infrastructure
- Duty-free retail redevelopment - Inovo has been appointed as project managers for the redevelopment of Auckland Airport’s duty-free retail spaces following Lagardère Travel Retail’s award as the duty-free operator across five stores and associated back of house areas in the international departures and arrivals areas.
- Flood remediation - Inovo was engaged to manage the urgent remediation of extensive damage caused to the international terminal by the 2023 Auckland floods. This entailed the testing and replacement of large areas of floor and wall finishes, doors, fixed furniture, bathroom amenities, lifts and escalators, and specialised check-in and baggage-handling equipment.
